Jacek Adamek, Consultant Colorectal Surgeon, Endoscopy, talks about his role within DMC and his experiences at Whipps Cross Hospital.
"When did you first join DMC?"
I am a consultant colorectal Laparoscopic Surgeon and Clinical Director for Surgery at an NHS Trust, and began working with DMC in August 2019, after being introduced to the organisation through a friend of mine.
What is your role within DMC?
Simply, my role is as an endoscopist, but I am also the endoscopy lead for the bowel screening program, in which on a daily basis I engage various specialised skills in my clinical practice.
"What do you look forward to when arriving at work for DMC?"
I conduct my work for DMC at Whipps Cross Hospital, where DMC have been providing insourced endoscopy services since 2016, and I particularly enjoy the professionalism of the nursing team we have at the hospital.
DMC have been providing insourced weekend activities to Whipps Cross Hospital – part of the Barts Health NHS Trust – since 2016, and through management of waiting lists and improvement of patient safety and timeliness have assisted Whipps Cross in securing a successful JAG accreditation and subsequent re-accreditation in 2022.

"Have there been any highlights at DMC so far?"
To be honest, I consider every list I do at Whipps Cross with the brilliant team – both clinicians and nurses – as a collective highlight!
"Away from work, what do you enjoy doing in your spare time?"
On the one hand, a hobby I love is reading. On the other, however, I love to engage in sporting activities that gets the adrenaline pumping! I particularly enjoy playing squash, going out onto the road on the bicycle and navigating the ski slopes to name a few…and you might even see me on a motorbike too!
"Final thoughts on DMC?"
I am very happy to be part of the DMC family, and I am very pleased to work with such a well-led nursing team where the professionalism is absolutely second to none. My experiences with the team are so great because not only is there professionalism, but there is also a culture built around a friendly approach where everyone is very respectful of all other team members.
