Our Commitment to a Greener Future

DMC Healthcare is committed to supporting the NHS’s goal of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050. We align with this ambition by adopting sustainable practices and reducing our environmental impact. Our focus is on lowering carbon emissions through transport, facilities, clinical equipment, waste reduction, sustainable procurement, and community engagement.

In line with the NHS’s targets, we aim to achieve net zero for direct emissions by 2040, with an 80% reduction by 2032, and net zero for indirect emissions by 2045. Our ISO 14001, ISO 9001, and ISO 27001 certifications demonstrate our dedication to proactive environmental management, quality assurance, and information security.

Our Initiatives

Our Carbon Reduction Plan adopts the lowering of our carbon emissions through transport and facilities, clinical equipment and consumables, waste reduction and recycling, sustainable procurement, and community engagement.

Our Recent Milestones:

Standardisation of hardware across the company and prioritising environmentally conscious brands like Microsoft.

IT supplies from 100% brand new to now 98% refurbished / used, 2% new, less new device manufacturing required.

Operating a paperless business model, using digital systems to streamline operations and reduce waste.

Encouraging employees to go electric, with plan to install an electric car charger point at Head Office.

Embedding sustainability in our governance with regular newsletters and communications to share achievements and encourage green initiatives.

Collaborating with local authorities and community groups on initiatives like tree planting and school recycling programmes.

Prioritising virtual meetings to reduce travel and recruiting locally for onsite roles to minimise travel distances.

Newly refurbished Head office space, with majority of furniture and fixtures created with second hand and recycled materials.

Shipping box weight and size reductions of IT Kit, choosing partners who have net Zero goals.

Sourcing from local vendors to minimise shipping carbon footprint.

Transitioning from 66% to 100% electric company vehicles within 24 months.

Encouraging sustainable transport options like public transport and cycling, with financial incentives for greener choices.

We have recently acheived the ISO14001 certification (May 2024) for Environmental Management to benchmark and improve our environmental management systems and in-turn performance in energy use, transport planning, materials reuse, renewable energy generation, and waste management.

Clinical Effectiveness

Clinical effectiveness means ensuring that all aspects of service delivery are designed to provide the best outcomes for patients. This is achieved by ensuring that the right care is delivered to the right person at the right time they are in need and in the correct setting.

Information

A patient’s information should always be up to date and correct on any systems used. It should also be confidential through correct storage and management of data.

Risk Management

Risk Management involves having robust systems in place to understand, monitor and minimise the risks to patients and staff and to learn from mistakes. When things go wrong in the delivery of care, our staff teams should feel safe admitting it and be able to learn and share what they have learnt, which embeds change in practice.

Patient & Public Involvement

Communication with patients and the public is essential to gain insight on the quality of care we deliver, and any possible problems that can result. Public involvement is equally as important to ensure that patient and public feedback is used to improve services into day-to-day practice for better patient outcomes.

Education & Training

This encompasses the provision of appropriate support to enable staff to be competent in doing their jobs and to develop their skills so that they are up to date. Professional development needs to continue through lifelong learning.

Staff Management

This ensures the organisation recruits highly skilled staff and aligns them with the correct job roles. Staff are supported in professional development and to gain and improve their skills.

Audit

The aim of the audit process is to ensure that clinical practice is continuously monitored and that deficiencies in relation to set standards of care are remedied. Research goes alongside audits to pioneer best practice improvements.
